A Smarter Way to Evaluate a Plugin at a Glance.
With tens of thousands of WordPress plugins available, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. Star ratings alone don’t tell the full story. Download numbers can be misleading. And a plugin that was brilliant two years ago might be a liability today.
That’s why we created the PF Score.
What Is a PF Score?
Every plugin listed on PluginFind is assigned a PF Score – a single number out of 100 that gives you an at-a-glance sense of how a plugin is performing across the metrics that matter most.
It’s not a subjective rating. No human is sitting here deciding which plugins score well. The PF Score is calculated algorithmically, applied consistently to every single plugin in our directory, using the same formula every time.
What Goes Into It?
While we don’t publish the exact workings of our algorithm – to ensure the score remains a genuine reflection of quality rather than something that can be gamed – we can tell you that it draws on three core signals:
- Popularity – how widely adopted a plugin is across the WordPress ecosystem, based on active install data
- Reputation – what the WordPress community actually thinks of it, derived from user rating data weighted for volume and reliability
- Freshness – how actively maintained the plugin is, and whether it’s still being kept up to date.
- Vulnerability Status – we include vulnerability data in our PF Score algorithm. Plugins with known vulnerabilities are penalised based on patching status and vulnerability severity.
These four signals are weighted and combined mathematically to produce a score that reflects not just how popular a plugin is, but how trustworthy and well-maintained it is right now.
How Should I Use It?
Think of the PF Score as a useful starting point, not the final word. A plugin with a score of 85 isn’t necessarily better for your specific needs than one with a 72 – but it does tell you that the higher-scoring plugin has a stronger overall track record across the board.
Use it to quickly filter out plugins that may be outdated or underperforming, and to shortlist those that have genuinely earned their reputation.
A Level Playing Field
Every plugin is scored the same way. Whether it’s a plugin with millions of installs or one that’s just finding its feet, the same algorithm applies. We think that’s the fairest way to help you make an informed choice.
